709A spot welder should be here today, have watched a lot of videos, yet haven't found a best practice yet.

What'sthe best setting for 0.1mm pure nickle, to laptop 18650s, using the 709A?

Thanks!

Did you check my videos? If not do that and you got your answer. => You need to test since it depends on what strips you got.

But in general 4+6 spots and 6.5-7 in strength is what I use. Firm pressure and then you test on several cells. You should not be able to pull the tab easy away and you should NOT get a hole.

I've seen so many videos, I apologizes if I can't any particulars to you. :)

The 709A arrived today, and came with (4) sample packs of strips, with labelled material, thickness, through current, and welding setting...

* 0.1 nickel plated iron, 1-3A, 3-4
* 0.15 nickel plated iron, 2-5A, 6-7
* 0.2 nickel plated iron, 2.5-8A, 8
* 0.15 pure nickel, 10-15A, 7-8

I've got some dead batteries that'll be used as test units, will update, yet suspect it'll be around the 4-spots @ power-7.

So.. the 709A wired for North America 120v single-phasewill not trip a 15a breaker... built a battery last night, from 6 cells.

Use at your own risk... yet... :)

That was the big question... does a 709A require a 20a breaker? Here, for this application, the answer is "no"... a 15a breaker works with this unit, at this setting.

Was not really looking forward to installing a 20a outlet next to the service-entrance! :)

Built the battery using power of 6.75, with 4 pulse, with batteries that could be disposed of, if required. Welded cells alreadycharged, then did a charge-test (charge, discharge, charge), and worked great.

Thanks!

Yeah, as long as there isn't another load on the circuit, you'll probably be ok. You are probably right at the limit of 15A. But, since you aren't continuous load, the breaker will hold. You're intermittent enough to allow the breaker to cool down (or not get warm at all).

Glad it worked out for ya :)
