I have a Robus Outdoor Accumulator LED Floodlight 12v 10W it has three of the subject batteries in it
They have the common blue shrink wrap I see there is a reference to a purple wrap but no real ID of the manufacturer or data information

Pictures?

I have some pictures bt dont understand how to attach them, oh its just drag and drop!

Peter was ranting about "SZN" cells a few times in some videos. Apparently they tested and held up just fine compared to more well known brands. They're a Chinese manufacturer of li-ion batteries.

I bought 8x 18650and a charger from ebay They were badged Boruit 4000 mAh.

Most 18650 Li-ion batteries should weigh between 45 to 50 gms, or more if they are genuine batteries.
Of the eight batteries I bought they weighed:- 2 x 42 gms 5 x 43 gms 1 x 44 gms. I then cycled the cells to determine their capacity as I was concerned about them being under weight.
1. 44 gms showed 1363 mAh
2. 43 gms showed 1160 mAh
3. 43 gms showed 1260 mAh
4. 43 gms showed 1205 mAh
5. 43 gms showed 1125 mAh
6. 42 gms showed 1115 mAh
7. 43 gms showed 1205 mAh
8. 42 gms showed 1240 mAh

So as you can see they are just below the "normal" weight for a genuine Li-ion Battery
The are also labelled 4000mAh which is incorrect for all 8 of the cells I tested and confirmed. However considering the average mAh for these batteries is around 1200 mAh I would not really expect to see a true capacity of 4000 mAh.
Important note:-
As Li-ion batteries can be charged at up to 1x of their stated rating this exeragated mAh rating may lead to attempting to apply too much charge current and cause:-
1. A battery fire,
2. Excessive heat build up or
3. A reduced battery expected life.

So at this stage although the batteries are borderline or under the recommended weight they will not be dismantled to identify if they are in fact fakes, with filler and smaller cell structure.

The supplied Charger:-
No documentation on operating the charger at its various voltages was supplied.
I did not use the charger so cannot comment on it review wise.

I used my B6AC charger discharger to obtain the above capacitiies..
During the tests I found something interesting, all the cells had been over wrapped with the Boruit information.
Upon peeling the wrap off I found the following details underneath:-
Blue wrap whith a white Positive ring.
On the wrap were the following details:-

LIYANG 18650RPO/AFLM4 (this ID does not exist in the database yet.)

Contact with the ebay seller, (This is a funny story) I contacted the ebay seller and asked the following question:-

How did you determine the batteies you sell are in fact 4000 mAh and not fakes.

Well surprise surprise I got a string of email replies back firstly
1. Denying they sold them to me
2. The 60 day return has expired.
3. Send the link to the batteries, and all sorts of other tap dancing that even Fred Astair would be proud of!

I checked again and another surprise they no longer sold them, so I went delving into their feedback and found negative feed back and 50% of the feedback I could directly relate to the same cells.

so a message back informing the seller of what I found and again asked for a reply to my original question.

No prizes for guessing if I got an answer to my question.

RAB: interesting. Gotta love those dance routines, eh? Has it truly been over the 60 day window? Is all correspondence through eBay? I hope you didn't pay too much for the junk. Why did you buy it knowing it was potentially fake?

I was interested in believing the technology was as advertised, however $32 Bucks later I find that the seller now professes to be Boruit agent! and they know some resellers sell their batteries as fakes.

A cut and past of their reply

Hi friend,
We are an authentic BORUiT manufacturer and BORUiT is our brand. Many other sellers on the market fake our brand in sales.
Nice day,
Best regards
Yours Sincerely,
ghtseller

Regardless of the rubbish replies they gave me, they never answered my question as to how they determine the 4000 mAh capacity.

So as an exercise I sent the same question to other ebay sellers who had some very "impressive" mAh rated batteries for sale.

They were:-

nameever - 12000 mAh obviously cutting edge technology at work here! and Ican only assume you possibly dont need to recharge them either
ebizstore - 4000 mAh (to replace the ones I got stitched on!)
Boriut - 4000 mAh straight to the manufacturer here!
Bicycle lamp - 4000 mAh again obviously must be good!
w2013ss - 9900 mAh No doubt Luke uses these in his light Saber!
coolcargo - 9900 mAh again and so obviously must be true!
supersellerboy - 5300 maybe he got the 5 and 3 reversed ? (almost correct if so)

You know what my email must have crashed as I didnt get even one answer.

I did however see an article by ebay warning buyers there were some "dodgy" sellers with overated 18650 products on their site.

Were they doing anything about it ...you be the judge!!

Hi.
I have got 3 similar cells from from an 'usb power bank' which I've dismantled few years ago.
Even those cells weren't charged for a very long period after charging them, they hold around 2000-2200mA (and were discharged at 400mAh)
They weight 42/43 grams.

Here are some pictures with the cell since it's not into DB.

Have fun.

Further to my original post about the boruit cells, well my cycle tests seem to rate them around 2300 mAh and I also discover they are actually protected cells.
All very interesting, good for a torch or low current application.
