Currently building a power case, have 4 x 4s 20p packs linked in series. Is it necessary to have a BMS for charging if I am using an iMax B6AC charger/balancer?.
Also, on the charger, the charge volts is pre-set depending on whether the pack is 2s,3s,4s,5s, or 6s but I do have control of the charging amps, from 100ma to 6a so my question is, what is a safe charging amps for my 4s 20p packs. Currently, have it set at the default of 600ma but seems to be taking forever to charge.
These are the cells imusinghttp://secondlifestorage.com/showthread.php?tid=1732

If you just going to balance-charge then no you dont need BMS. The charger will take care of it

If you got 20p in paralell on each pack then you can easily charge with 20A if the cells is capacble of it. So you can max that charger with 6A without issues.
