I just went to Progressive RC and noticed the Celllog 8 is discontinued.

I really did like that little unit, Im glad I got at least one, but I really wanted the logging capability which is why I went there today to buy one.

I see this as a replacement...

Does anyone know anything about it?

I know the Cell Log 8 has a little discharge problems / balance issues because it didn't draw power eventually across all the cells, but asides from that it was near perfect.

I really liked the Alarm output to shut off the load when doing discharge testing.

This is also a balancer. Albeit not lots of current but it's an idea for those small packs.

I did notice that, pretty cool... for small projects, this seems like it going to gain popularity, but what I need is logging capability.

I am kicking myself for not buying a few Cell Logs with logging... That was my primary need for a new unit.

Check Ebay might be some on there

You may try that, but be warned.

I tried buying 2CellLog8 S (the logging kind), but from 2 sellers I was shipped the logless type and had to pay for returning the useless loggers.
A third seller also claiming to sell the logger discovered that he had the non-logging kind, and was able to cancel the deal before shipping out.

I did not get any.

An Australian company claims to have the CellLog8S in stock, but will not ship outside Australia.

So Your time may be better spent searching elsewhere.

This unit has no logging function, but do balancing with a limited current.

I checked eBay... there was nothing to be had, at least nothing that looked like a reliable seller.

What a bummer... but that's what I get for dragging my feet for months.

I do know of a more expensive solution... you can use the iCharger in monitor mode with a USB cable to output data to logging software. But its hardly convenient when trying to motor a larger battery bank as you will generally need more than one Cell Log or iCharger to take care of all the cells.

The iCharger also needs an external power supply.

I am really hoping the Cell Log people make a new unit, one where leaving it connected for extended periods of time would be OK without creating a balance issue. The ISDT unit looks pretty nice, but if they could add logging to that unit would be turn out to be a better replacement.

I already knew what the results were going to be, but I wanted to test it myself just for fun. Confirmed the Cell Log 8 does in fact only draw power from the first 6 cells, which unfortunately puts cell 7 and or 8 out of balance over time.

Even with its faults I still wish I was able to buy a couple more, especially the model that has internal storage for logging and recording data; That was an awesome and unique feature.

I have ordered the ISDT BG-8S Battery Checker and will do a full review write up as time permits Unfortunately it doesnt log, but it does balance, so I am sure that I would be running into any of the same long term use issues of the Cell Log 8. Trade-off

Here are some photos from an overnight test.

End Test - Ran Overnight
mV delta increased
Cell Voltages 1-6 dropped

I have the same problem. You can still get them though. Go to alibaba and order from the manufacturer directly...if you can. I have not experience ordering via alibaba.

Any update as to how this unit is working?

I guess I forgot about this thread... I assume you are referring to theISDT BG-8S Battery Checker I said I would review.

I did some testing on the unit... it seems to be great. I do like that it has a balance function, it has come in handy/useful, the accuracy seems pretty good too. Overall it was worth the purchase.

The iCharger 4010was also an amazing purchase. I do have some videos on the channel, its more than just a charger, its a complete battery workstation. Very impressed with how powerful and useful both of these purchases were.

I made a short video which was about the Fiat cell, but also has a demo of the BG-8S.

Yea I was thinking on the Checker. i'll check out your vids. I am looking for something to keep an eye on some LTO cells

Do you know if the Voltage range is able to be custom configured? the LTO i'm using will run from 1.8v thru 2.8V

There is a menu for setup and options... ill take a look at that later and let you know if I see LTO as an option, or if there are settings for custom profile. I have not really explored that in detail.

One thing I did like about the CellLog is it had a dry contact output... could use that to trigger a relay or something to shutoff the load vs just alarm like most units.

Yea I love my Cellog8 and that it has a user settable parameters over alarms, max and min voltages and pack voltages.

I`ve got quite a few cell loggers i may consider selling if anyone is interested, i`ve got around 8 of them.

Based in the uk.

Here are the available battery types from the menu... no custom voltage settings available.

Ahh Bummer no user settable. but thanks for that. the One cellLog I have will do I just need to build a multiplexer to switch between the 4 sets of cells :)

ummmmmmmmmmm, YES THERE ARE *shesh*. there are a range of options to set warning voltages on the BG-8S ... no problem. albeit 1.8V might be a bit on the low side. IIRC 2.50V is the lowest setting ... but this is getting offtopic.

I have three of the iSDT BG-8S's ... love them. BUT they are no celllogger .... the differences to me, are as follows:

1/ no alarm output
2/ no logging (obviously)
3/ no overvoltage alarm
4/ no out of balance alarm

I too, am seriously sad that I missed them before the supplies dried up. The local (NZ) icharger agent/distributor here is both out of stock, AND too lame to explain or rectify.

And yes, the whole 'which cell it draws power from' bug has been squashed, long ago. a new firmaware flash will fix this, I am led to believe.

Thanks to the posters/OP for this thread ... am now going to try again via ebay/OEM (SHENZHEN JUNSI ELECTRONIC CO.,LTD), and also ask glyndwr1998 if he still has any for sale.
