I have a number of 18v XRP dewalt tools and I use the dw9180 packs in them (The nano-phosphate ones)... Anyway, the packs have started to fail in the heat of this summer and I'm now down to 1 pack.

So I bought a pair of these, thinking they would at least be decent:

Which have just arrived - I thought i'd open them up to see what cells were inside.... The sneaky pack builders get the weight and claimed capacity up by including 2 cells in the plastic case that aren't even wired in!

Behold, 4x completely dead cells that I removed from the cases:

eBay return started - not paying over the odds for crappy packs when I can get the new XR battery and a converter...

Wow, the nerve. At least the included the cells and didn't just put metal in there. You say the cells were dead, as in fully 0.00V dead, or just extremely low voltage dead?

Erm, what? They just put in two extra cells without any connections? That's a new quality of b*llsh*t. I have yet to encounter a case where a 3rd party battery is a decent replacement. I think this doesn't exist. You have to get the original stuff or build/rebuild the battery yourself.

The sony is 0.00v dead, the sanyo's are 0.4v dead - can't be bothered to mess with them - I'll send them to my recycler.

They just put the cells in the space at the back of the pack - no connection, nothing...

The rest of the packs were built with sony's - claimed 1600mAh according to the cell database, in a 2s construction they are running 3200 - not the 4000 claimed.

I have the XR battery converter for my tools - I will probably get a pair of the floureon 4Ah XR batteries, they actually have half decent reviews and are 45 for a pair, delivered. I do need a new charger though but they are cheap here too.
