Hahah, nice. I love the idea of repurposing a vending machine :p Nice touch!

Between the packs, are those 80A fuses? Where'd you pick those up at?

Thanks for doing that. For some reason it wouldnt add to the folder I had set up.

This is great! Love the idea of the fuses between packs.

It's an interesting idea, but I don't quite see the reason for a fuse between packs, unless both Pos/Neg terminals of all packs are on the same end. If they alternate, then I don't see the reasoning, other than self re-assurance.
The two big issues with needing fuses for used cells, is cell to bus bar, and string (the whole series) fused to shunt (if you have one) and to inverter/charger.

Doyle: is there are particular reason why you fused between packs? I suppose if the fuses are relatively in expensive, the added layer is fine.

I love the fuses between each pack adds another level of safety without a great deal of cost might even save blowing 100's of cell level fuses too **Done this it's bad and not fun to fix **

Like it, vending joules....
Stick a couple of electrodes out and mark on the machine "$1 per 100 Joules, hold both connections to collect".. sense of humour failure police will probably tun up though..

Yep, what he said ... I agree, fully.

I woke up in a cold sweat one night, realising that the 10s12p battery I built for my electric skateboard had the sleeves of adjacent 'packs' rubbing against each other ... some of my harvested cells had sleeve damage too. I literally got up in the middle of the night and wrapped each pack with kapton tape ... when I finally built v2 of this battery I decided it would be cheaper to fuse between packs, than to keep using kapton tape ($$).

Sometimes I'm a bit uncoordinated and also, there is always chance of a third party putting something conductive in the battery case (don't ask!). Either way, having a fuse between packs is indeed cheaper and MUCH easier than dealing with other probs. I still jump with fright every time I short a pack with my soldering iron (again, don't ask!). Fuses are Good.

Love the vending machine look. Nice one.

Hey Guys sorry for the delay in responding. The idea of the pack fuse it to stop a I rush of power and protect the glass fuses. I had a cell internal short meltdown when I first setup the packs and it blew every fuse . This was a simple cheap ,,peace of mind.. idea. I plan on putting in midnight solar breakers in a week or so to replace the fuses. I have been working in the next 7 packs for the box ...

If you have problem with rush between packs and blow fuse level fuses the most common issue is that the size of the fuses per cell is way way to small :)

More fuses only creates more points that creates points that can and will fail and introduces more resistance :) With that said if you are unsure of your self its better with a fuse extra but then it need to be in correct current.
