I have done this a time or 2 5Watt 3 Ohm resistor works a treat. Just gets hot

At least the CE pin is working properly. I havn't made any charging graph yet, but seems okay. Just repaired 9 dead TP4056 module today.
Got me thinking. Adding a different charger IC(Ti, Microchip) to my DM will increase the cost around +$0.8-1.2 each, while an original TP4056 is only +$0.15. I guess it's worth it to pursue the original TP, right? So I asked my friend in shanghai to look around.
Anyway here is a 3D model from the new DM, just a plan:

It has smd components and has an thermistor too in the holder's screw hole. Kind of.. solder your holder and go.
I haven't messaured my system to the opus, but if I get one someday sure I'll do. Based on my tests with my own equipment it's accurate and not least it's give me constant results. Btw comparing different systems are not easy. Mostly the different charging process can lead to a very biased result. Aaaand we are back to square one... which charging chip should I use? I think most DIYer prefer lower price than a few mAh off, if there is.
Also I made a bigger variant from the DM what I'm currently using. It can handle 2.5A easily.

Ok you use the EC pin to enable charging.. and you use the same pwm signal to control it, but how do you detect that it is charged ?  You can use led for state check, but your schematics doesn't  show that.
Is it manually controlled tester or is it automatic for charge->Resistance test->discharge->recharge.
The software detection would be hard here without using tp4056.

There are 3 ways to do that.
-C/x (current) termination
-safty timer
-STDBY pin on TP4056

First one is not possible with this design. Second one was planned, but after a few discussion elsewhere I went with the third one. Downside is I needed one more cable between a TP and DM, but that's okay. This is how the process looks like:
idle > detect cell > deplete cell from unknown capacity > charge > detect when charged > start discharge test > finished
The slots are indepentend from each other.
I don't charge it again at end because the voltage gonna rise after a little bit of rest and it's better if you not store your battery at full capacity. Of course the possibility is there, as measuring the IR.

I don't know when you downloaded the schematic, but download it again. I just updated my firmware last week, also my site too.

Got another 20 useless fake TP4056 .. it seems they are TP4060 clones not the TP4056, because in TP4060 Pin 1 for TEMP and pin 8 for CE are not used, so not connected... and they are cheaper to make...

But you are making a good job .. and nice design Wink  I was already in process of building my own discharger/tester when i saw you videos and found this thread Wink  else i definitely would of used your design Wink , now i just gather what seems best for me Wink

I guess you better of with lcsc after all, at least it's a legit place to buy.

it's a bit too late  Smile discharger is up and running,  just upgrading ..   Will add read out from 1ohm resistor, will replace 595 chips with servo drivers to remove shiftPWM, and hoping to add charging like in your design. Everything is already bought, tp4056 is whats missing Smile
