Lifting this thread.

I think i got a clone/knock off. Burned the connector for the powersupply mid charge at 4x500mA 3,7-3,8V, so no heavy charge. And this was only the fifth charge so it was more or less new. Left the room for about a minute or less and when i got back the smell of burnt electronics laid thick. Thought it was a cell since i brought them upp from about .8V so i threw them out but could not find anything on them. Disassembled the charger and found the connector.
Didn't really think about it when i got it but it does not say Opus anywhere on the charger or on the box.

Looks like that one has done a bit of work.

I can't really spot any visual difference. Side whatever is wrapped in heatshrink on your fan.

Checked the psu and it still outputs 12.45v so i don't think that's to blame.

A great point could be power coming in that's the issue. I was hoping to see some cracked or cold solder joints but looks ok from here.

Yours doesn't have the Opus brand name on it... Clone...

Mine ? Mine has the brand "Opus" name on it, but the corcuit board looks like his.

I didnt know, that the Opus Offers are corrupted by clones as the B6ACs are.

Sorry, I was referring to Freekarn's original post. The Opus logo is missing from the front of the charger.

As promised here is the back circuit board of mine.
Maybe the front of the boardhas more information on it. Im not too keen on removing the board though as its working just fine. But not having an OPUS name tag on the front should be a dead giveaway. :dodgy:
Mine also came in an OPUS box although theinstructions are rather haphazard just a simple sheetnot like my Zanflair which actually came with a nice little booklet.

So here is how it works - Opus don't make anything, they pay a factory to make a design for them.
The factory will make say 10,000 Opus units but then might also carry on making the unit and sell it to a cunning opportunistic reseller...
If you look on Ebay, there are Opus units and identical unbranded ones. They probably come from exactlythe same factory.
Intellectual property is worth almost nothing in China, if you use a Chinese company to make your product dirt cheap, you are open to this sortof clone issue. It's really common.

@JulianT the logic may be simple: the ones passing QC are sold are true Opuses while the ones not meeting the standards are bulk-sold to other secondary vendors.

That sounds about right to be honest..

and Im guessing the OP's Opus is not covered by warranty? I think this is where the rubber hits the road, so to speak.

I have purchased all mine from Gear best, so far. And they approved my warranty claim for a DOA ... like clockwork.

Warranty is what costs. pay for it ... or dont have it ...
