Testing out a PIP 1648MSX, what is the proper way to ground it? Ground, L, N are connected directly to an outlet. I plugged a power strip into the outlet and its showing no ground.

Will running the ground output from the pip to a grounding rod in earth fix that issue?

I ground to both the a/c and the grounding rod. Even though the little pocket tool that has the three lights show it's properly grounded, certain equipment, like my UPS, still shows a ground fault. I never quite figure out why. Maybe there's a slight difference between earth and neutral that I'm not seeing.

@srk

Hi - I have been eyeing this same MPP model.

How do you like it? What is your setup like?

Thanks

Thanks for the responses. I'm seeing the same as not2bme. Ground tester checks out but belkin power strip ground light says theres an issue. I'm slightly concerned because it's only used for electronic devices and I want to ensure I have clean power.

I'm still in the testing phase - I've been very cautious because it's not UL listed and because ive been seeing the ground light on my power strip. I've done long term testing with small loads but now I'm starting to add more load to it and it's working well so far.

I have 6 210w panels and approximately 10kwh of 18650 cells at 48v completely off grid with separate circuits on the AC side. So far so good. I could see maxing it out relatively soon though. I'd recommend it for a hobby/small setup to learn before sinking the big bucks into a higher wattage unit. There aren't very many 48v pipes that do 120v A/C for some reason.

Are you sure that ground light means there is an issue? Did you verify in the booklet/somewhere? I have several power strips where the ground light illuminates to let you know there IS a proper ground.

The power strip is a belkin. It actually says "not grounded" next to the light... I tried multiple grounding configurations now and nothing has helped. My electronic devices have been work fine so I'm no longer concerned about it.

A bad ground connection won't keep devices from working. It will just not protect you if a hot/neutral lead makes connection to a metal casing for some reason and you make a better path to ground than neutral does
