Happy New Year from Gent (Belgium)
#1
Hi all,

I'm Xavier from Belgium and I live near the town of Ghent.

I stumbled - rather by chance - on this forum when looking for information on replacing the NiMh battery packs of my power tools with Li-ion ones.

At first I was not really interested in building a power wall myself. But I must say that this forum, and all the other stuff around Li-ion power packs are tickling the tinkerer in me.
This combined with the strange tax regime on Solar power here in Belgium, may convince myself to start my own power wall in the near feature.

For my power tools I have recently bought a series of Li-ion batteries via Aliexpress.
Some 3000Mah 18650 Liitokala cells (less then 2€/cell) and some 5000Mah 26650 Liitokala cells (around 20€/6cells).
And I was almost surprised (some years ago I would have been glad to get half the announced capacity) that all the cells had a capacity over the announced capacity.
The 18650 cells were all between 3000-3200mah.
The 26650 cells were all between 5100-5400mah.
Internal resistance was also very good (20-30mOhm for the 18650's, sub 20mohm for the 26650's )

So is there some other catch ?

Welkom. Also 1 felow Belgium person here. From just below Antwerp. If you are going to change the nimhs for li ion. Then you also need a different charger and a bms because cut out voltage would be wrong and you are going to damage the battery.

Welcome Xavier,

Always nice to see Belgian people on the forum.
Collecting cells since more than 1 year, now tested enough cells to built my 14S 80P wall.
Work in progress.

It's good you found sellers that sell genuine cells.
If you have time, can you please share your findings? It's all about sharing here on this forum :-)

Have fun & feel free to ask questions.

Have a nice weekend

Off course, I think I have that figured out.
I ordered some off those boards :

from Aliexpress.

I'm waiting for some more batteries from Aliexpress to arrive to be able to assemble the packages.

I bought the 26650 cells from this store : https://13510646755.aliexpress.com/store...4c4d1g8bsd
They were 19,64€ (incl shipment) for 6 batteries (5000mah)

I bought the 18650 cells from this store : https://www.aliexpress.com/store/1270703...4c4dBLifIB
They were 6,44€ (incl shipment) for 3 batteries (3000mah), they were sold as HG2 batteries.

some new cells came in today : https://www.aliexpress.com/store/2779003...4c4dp2iOHs
They were 15,86€ (incl shipment) for 10 batteries (2500mah), sold as INR1865025R cells.
Those cells did not pass the testing they all ended up at around 2200mah. (Internal resistance is also little bit higher on those cells 50mOhm)

Testing is done with 2, Liitokala Lii-500 engineer chargers.

Hi Xavier and welcome to the forum!

I know shopping on AliExpress can be quite tempting, but for battery cells I'd advise you to find a store with good reputation locally.
There's quite a few fake or rebranded cells online and many of those won't meet the advertised specifications.
You might get the initial capacity, but there's no way to tell if you'll get the normal number of cycles that an original LG HG2 would get you.

Nkon in Eindhoven is a big supplier with interesting prices, but there are others around.

Hey wimpie007,

The fact is that I like to shop in china for all my electronic stuff. The only downside is that you have to wait that long.
I was expecting less capacity as specified, and was positively surprised they met the specs.
I've bought 4 batches of battery so far. All of them meets capacity specs except one (sold as 2500mah but test will go no further than 2150-2200mah). Trying to reclaim my money now.
A few years ago none of the batches would have met the requirements :-)
Concerning the battery cycles : that is also the case with recycled batteries isn't it ?

I know Nkon. I know him from the time he started his shop on "samenkopen.net".
