After hurricane Maria, life changed for many in its path. its unfortunate or fortunate on how we depend so heavy on electricity, and we normally don't even think about how this energy arrives into your home. Just flip a switch and go. Worst yet we don't even consider how this energy is generated and all the green house gas produced.
I originally started this build to free myself from the dependence on our local energy producer and also have the added benefit of reducing my carbon foot print. I build a DIY 48v solar system using 18 used 300 watt Qcell panels, AIMS solar controller and AIMS 10 kw inverter with expensive eight 415 AH batteries, that 20kw of storage power. Yeah, right more like 6 kw if you want to keep the battery warranty. This was a good start but not enough to take me off grid, too make a long story short, and with great difficulty, I build a 24 kw salvage nissan leaf solar battery pack. Mind you this took many months, island life. Thanks to many youtubers such as Reglan electric bikes, devildestiny555, williamgerr, jehugarcia, markosborne, going off grid, Jwsolarusa, and many more for their inspiration. So as of today we added a Batrium Watchmon 4 with 7 leafmon, great stuff, and futzing around with its software. I will be asking questions as time permits to many of these experts in this forum.
