I've been interested in solar for years but never really had the spare cash to get into it so I started looking for alternative ways of getting what I needed this started with 2 broken solar panels that were donated to me by an installer who was putting one of the free grid tie systems (BULL*#/T) on a neighbors roof the 2 panels had fallen over and cracked the glass, I took them home tested them and they were still working so I repaired them with uv stable varnish and 2 years on there still good, I then found 3 more on eBay fixed them too but had to upgrade my charge controller as my 10 pwm from china didnt like it so I bought my first mppt controller CPT-LA10 for the grand total of 20 ish, Adam Welch did a recent review (<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="

</a><!-- m -->).

my first goal wasn't to make a system that would power my house but light it I have 12v led lights all around the house mainly decorative such as behind the fireplace and concealed LED strips running up the stairs and landing and 12v pir security lights outside and lights in my shed, I then was given a 5000va apc ups 48v after some tinkering I converted it to a home inverter making an auto switch over controlled by the load output of the charge controller so when the batteries went low it went straight back to mains, It worked but was not very efficient and the fan sounded like a jet that was just getting ready to take off.

I now have the MSE2424 I would of liked to have the 4048 but funds wouldn't stretch that far and ive acquired 2 more 175w panels adding to my 5 250w panels.

And thanks to hbpowerwall im on building an 18650 battery bank I like his videos he says he is rambling and talking s##t but there more informative than many others out there so thanx Pete.
