Hi from NE Oregon

Hello everyone,

I'm an off-gridder, diving into DIY after looking at the economics of replacing my current AGM bank.
Currently running a 24V, 1250Ah bank of Concorde PVX-2580L which are about finished.
Inverters are a pair of old Trace SW4024s, solar comes in through two Midnite Solar MPPT units.
Backup charging is through the SW4024s, from a rebuilt Onan 5CCK.

About to order 350 Yinlong LTO cells due to the reported long life and temperature range handling.
For a BMS, almost certainly Batrium.
30P, 11S should give me similar stats as my current bank and leave a few spare cells.
Now how in the world do I get this brand new battery technology to work with my 1980s Inverter/chargers  Big Grin
Lots to learn!

11s Sounds sine for your invert of 22-33V range BMS with Batruim is no problems and for Capacity there is always room for more power Wink Just have to decide how Far you are going to charge and discharge your batteries. that will tell you what cutoffs you need. The Midnight solar units are configurable for voltage and should work just fine.

you just need to know how much power you want on hand and make sure your solar can charge that muich as well.

There are lots of other projects here as well as a few using the LTO cells Search for LTO and you will find some info on it.

Cheers

Greetings. Check out Completely Charged's LTO powerwall. I tried searching and it was a little hard to find.

Have you got the LTO cells yet?  Why not just get larger LifePO4 cells in the 200+ Ah range?

At 11s they can use the lead acid charging rate with flying colors.
all what I would use is a active voltage battery equalizer. You'll need a 5s unit and a 6s unit to be 11s
The inverters will kick out at 18-20 volt so you won't have a problem.

Thanks, Jim.  Gradually getting the cells charged up in 5s blocks on a Xantrex TruCharge40+ 12v charger, 40 minutes or so at 40A and they just fill right up like water into a bucket.  Not evenly though, I'll definitely have to shuffle them around to keep the 11 banks at similar resistance levels.

My BMS being so low amperage (Batrium) I'll probably end up using it as more of a monitor just to reassure myself.

Oh, FYI for folks.....I got my supposedly all 'B' grade cells from OSN Power, and they are most definitely a mixed bag of new, used and abused cells.  It'd sure be nice if a US manufacturer got into the market!

And as a reply to the question above as to why LTO, again it's for the longer expected lifespan and the temperature handling. The safety aspect is good too, as these will be in an attached power room.
