Yeah, VOC is open circuit with no load. VMP is with load. So, under load, the voltage will be around 31.3V. That's about what MPPT will try to adjust to to get max power from the panel

Finished monitoring the power load and in 24 hours it came to the grand total of 2.844 KWh which I will treat as my maximum load. So now I'll have to go digging in the FAQ to see how I convert KWh to the amount of battery and solar panels required... or am I missing something?

I think that load (small), compared to your planned solar input (decent), you will have daily power to spare (yay).

If you setup a small (10-20kWh) storage battery, you could run everything for many cloudy days, and if it was sunny more than a day in a row, you too could become a BatteryHasher (crypto-mining with your excess/'free' electricity).  Depends what you want to do, really.

Had a look at the BatteryHasher videos, interesting setup but not really my thing. There's a guy I know that is doing that. He originally said it was going to be his sole source of income, but hasn't really made any money from it. That after spending 20k on a massive solar and mining rig setup.

You mention 10-20kWh of battery, I assume to go from Ah to kWh you just convert amps to watts?

Correct, you got it.

So in very rough terms, 10kWh, on a 48V system would be ~ 200Ah.  On a 24V system ~ 400Ah... 

The total number of 18650's needed for the battery is based on the Watt-hour capacity (not the Amp hour capacity).  So for 10kWh, assuming 7Wh capacity per cell (ave capacity of ~1800mAh each cell), equates to ~ 1400 cells.  This number might be a familiar one ... 14 packs of 100 cells ... 10kWh...  hope that helps.

Put together a draft version of my 48 volt off grid design, and would appreciate feedback or critique please. Main design concepts...

1. KISS - Keep it simple stupid :-)
2. Start small, but be able to expand if required.
3. Allow additional solar panels to be added easily.
4. Enable the addition of extra battery packs if required.

Look ok.

You need fuses on outlet side (AC)
BMS on battery side
Lightning protection on Panel side if you are in such an area.

Other than that its the basic i would say.

Thanks for the feedback. When I read your mention of the AC fusses I thought... so obvious, why didnt I think of that. So thank you.

I plan on looking at BMS after I get my batteries, but will definitely be adding a system. As for lightning protection, I have no idea, but will definitely be adding a good earthing cable.

Not sure about the lightning protection thing either in Australia.
A good copper ground stake is required though. They sell them at bunnings
