Hello. Thanks for welcoming me. Am from Kenya, Africa and am a mechanic by profession. When I was younger in school I had this passion with electronics and building stuff etc. So when others were going for sports or leisure (free time) I took the time to study electronics and mechanical engineering. In Kenya this is done after completion of primary and secondary school education. It was bonded in me so much I did it at those stages. So after, I joined technical schools for my certificate in both careers.
Have gone roundincompanys made some life around me. Now am retired. Still run a workshop doing all I love.
I have a home too. Fitted solar systems as my backup. For long it's been running fine except every now and then the acid batteries die and have to replace. Normal service. Then 2 or 3 years back I leaned about Tesla powerwall systems (mind you I had knowledge on electric cars and hybrid) which made me so interested. The lifespan attracted me like a magnet.! The batteries would last over a decade! And more capacity from a small combo! Wow how nice was the news. So since then I've been all over internet and YouTube trying to gather as much information as I can. Slowly I got hooked up in sourcing old laptop batteries. The 18650s. Tried all tricks available from all sources I read or viewed on how to test and build this combination which suites me. All is going good. Thank you for reading the lengthy intro. Will soon post more of what and how I have done

welcome, can't wait to see what you're able to bring to the table .. sounds like you have a lifetime of experience :)

Thanks hb. Am one of your fun on you-tube. I can share a lot! Plus receive much much more :).

Hello.
My new power-wall will consist of a 7s 96p arrangement where I will be using old 18650 cells. The old power-wall that I build a couple of years back is still running fine using lead acid batteries.
The new power-wall is using a new hybrid Mpp solar inverter 3024Ge model. As earlier said I have 1200 watt solar panels which I will upgrade to 2400 watts.
The 18650 cells that i gathered from old laptop batteries are tested using the liitoKala 500 engineer 4 channel tester/charger. That was what I used before I bought the quatro200 from skyrc. After the 30 day period of storing then comes sorting of which discharge and which dont. I was of the idea to spot weld or solder the cells together but rested with the 4 channel holders. Why? I have seen videosand read online about used 18650 cells. Reliability!!!! seen guys build packs and after one or two or more cycles one or more cells dies, forcing the builder to dismantle the whole pack. thats why. Its tiresome to build just one pack later to have issues. But hay.. thats me. So i design the best of what suites me. Packing together this 4 channel trays in this order 48pcs:- 3S (3pcs)by12pcs long holding in 144 cells. So I have a 12 volt output 144 cell bank! with balance leads and fuses at the most negative -12ve.
For me to get used cells is a struggle as most of them are almost depleted. So getting a cell with 2000mAh is a wonder. New cells is a ban here, stringent laws! But soon the ban will be lifted. I pray for that day. Up to this writeup I have 4 complete banks. On my way to built another 1S bank to complete my setup. That is 7S.
