Would appreciate any advice, including the most beneficial features i.e. magnification, lamp type, brands, etc.

If the lens is too strong you don't get much depth of field in focus.
For electronics, I wanted on with good CRI so I could read parts properly - I found some cool white or warm white LED/flouros were not so good.
Depends on what you're planning to use it for?

Hi Redpacket... thanks for the info. Mostly looking for a magnifying lamp for detailed electronics work, such as component assembly, soldering etc. My eyes are not great with up close work, so I find it easier with lighting andmoderate magnification. Dont want to spend a massive amount, just looking for something that is reasonable quality for the price.

Thanks for that.Have one of those, and I find it can be a challenge with the magnifying glass connected to the clamps. I want to separate the magnifying glass from the clamps and the object being worked on, as I use separate clamps now anyway.

Sounds like you might need the long armed one like in your earlier pic then :)

Sometimes I'll light the back of the board with a torch too.

One thing I did that seemed to help was make some overhead lighting for the bench with MR16 LED downlight bulbs, a 12V supply, "chocolate block" connectors & fig 8 flex.
I picked 2x warm 2x daylight downlight bulbs, gave better CRI.
The supply was an old modem 12V 3.5A supply at first, then swung over to the Daygreen stepdown unit from the batteries.

Pretty sure the neighbors think aliens have landed when I'm working in the shed :)

PS, what are you using for clamps?
