Monster 410 4-Outlet Power Strip Failure/Complaint
#1
I've always considered Monster to be a more premium brand of cabling. They're not the absolute best, but they're definitely better quality than the typical cables available in retail stores. I don't usually post things like this, but this one has me a bit annoyed and surprised.

I have this Monster 410 4-Outlet Power Strip. It's rated for 15A 1800W. Today, I plugged it in and heard a pop. The light on the switch remained lit but there was no power at the receptacles. There is no resettable breaker or fuse to replace. Now I only had two small computers plugged in and a wireless router. The combined load is about 3A max! I decided to rip it apart to see what I could find.

The internal fuse is fine, but look at the solder connectors where the black (hot) wires solders to the PCB. One of them is starting to separate from the PCB, pulling up the trace.  The other black lead has completely separated! What the heck...?!

Now this has nothing to do with the problem, but look how the wires are connected to the receptacles. Is that supposed to be solder? They are just barely hanging on. How in the world is that supposed to sustain 1800 Watts!? No wonder there are so many power strips catching fire, melting, etc.

Complete garbage...

Wow! that's horrible solder job on the wires. Barely enough to stick a few strands.

And I agree, I had put Monster up on the quality list. They were always out of my price range, so never got them, tho.

How old is the unit?

wow, crap! And I bet it's out of warranty, too, huh? Maybe you can take it to BestBuy or someplace similar and they'll replace it regardless. Lowe's is usually good at doing that, too.
