Mounting Longmon's

Hi everyone.

I am in the process of thinking through and building my small powerwall project with the Batrium BMS. I have seen the various different installs from DIY Tech, Average Joe and HB Powerwall. I do not have a 3d printer to make a Longmon holder ....so is the only alternative mounting methods doubled sided tape or cable ties? Has anyone discovered a generic clip of some sort that will hold the Longmon's securely? It seems to me that the doubled sided tape or cable ties might present a long term problem as I get the impression that the Longmon's can generate a good bit of heat. Thanks Richard

Zip ties is not a problem long term as long as you use good qual zip ties. If you go double sided tape you need those suitable for higher temp or else the will not last.

Thanks Daromer ....I wish there was an alternative but I will look for high temp double sided tape. Do you have any specific ones you recommend? What about hot gluing the Longmon's ...again I don't like that solution either but if it is a method that has been used I might consider that as well. I guess I should have asked the obvious question first ....what kind of temperature can the Longmon's generate?

Thanks ...I was actually looking at those and thinking of using them. This does put the heat sensor for the batteries further away from the battery though. What are your feelings about that? Do you eel you still get a good temp reading for the batteries?

With the battery pack sizes we are building, you're not going to get temp readings from the batteries anyway. You would only be reading the temp of the cells which the longmon is directly in contact with.

Hot glue melt to Early unless you use high temp glue. Mikes suggestion is Good!

OK ...so the temp sensor for the batteries does not have to be in direct contact in our powerwalls then ...so Mike's approach is a good one.

Agreed.Temp sensor cannot be placed against all the cells in a pack, so I didn't worry about that. Zip-tied to battery holders with an eye to air circulation for cooling AND for ease of plugging in cables. The longmons have indentations near top and bottom that seem to avoid the hot areasandmake zip tieswork well.

I use zipties to the cell holders but mikes idea works super well.

Mounting them horizontally instead of vertically gives better heat dissipation if you can.
Whatever system you use has to be non metallic ?
