So, three weeks in, and I'm in mining happiness. I've learned a ton, and have so much more to learn
This rig is made up of mostly older parts sitting around collecting dust.
I purchased open air rack and risers from amazon.
I purchased two rx580's at best buy (they sell out fast, happened to see them, so I grabbed them)
Everything else I already had.
current configuration:
Gigabyte Ultra Durable 3 motherboard, 8gb ram, 1tb hd, windows 10 pro. it has two pciE slots, but I'm using riser splitters described in Pete's different post.
8 core i7 950 @ 3.07 GHZ
8gb ram
two 750 watt power supplies (one dedicated for the two older gpus, and one for the motherboard, fans and the the three newer gpus)
7 x 12mm fans
I had a 768 mb NVidia gtx 460 - which I was using video only, pulled this to save power.
1x rx570 4gb - flashed with timing straps to 1750 - overclocked - 29mHash each
2x rx580 8gb - flashed with timing straps to 1500 - overclocked - 30 mHash each
2x 7950 3gb - overclocked - 8.5 mHash each
total combined stable = 105 mHash mining.
The hash values range on the 570's and 580's from 28 to 31.
Also CPU mining and getting around 80h/s with minergate for XMR.
I compared the minergate and claymore numbers again and they are really really close to each other maybe 1mhash up or down.
I just sold the two 7950s, so those are coming out and I'll drop in three more rx580's.
assuming they are available at bestbuy again - (or wherever I can find them).
At current calculations, once I replace the two 7950's with three rx580's, that should give me close to 180 mHash with 6 cards.
Also, it should use less than approx 800 Watts in total.
Here are some screen scrapes from afterburner with my clock speeds on the 570/580
