Today, July 15th of 2018, I started my project with my first 3 used laptop batteries. More to come...

Still looking for more sources here in the Philippines and buddies who are into the same project in the Philippines.

Phase one will be 13.5 kWh!

Hi, guys,

I want to give you a short update.

As of today, I processed exactly100 cells from used laptop batteriesand here are the statistics:

>2,000 mAH: 28 cells
<2,000 mAH: 44 cells
<1,000 mAH: 10 cells
damaged cells: 18 cells

I'm using 2 LiitoKala Engineer Lii-500, one Nitecore D4 and one i2.

Yesterday was again a throwback day, but as well another motivation day.

We had three black outs and every time the cell testing was interrupted and I needed to start over again. On the other hand it motivates me to continue this project to be independent from the public utility.

So all in all, I was able to finish 5 good cells in 24 hours and this brings up the "good" cell count to 85 pieces.

In the moment I'm considering all cells above 1800mAh as "good" cells. My highest cell has 2856mAh, which is not bad for a used cell (Panasonic ICR18650D).

My question is, is it wise to use cells with a span of 1800 to 2856 in one 7s20p setup? Who can give me some input? Or is a 7s25p better?

Is there a MPPT hybrid inverterwhich I can use for a 24V setup and change later to 48V?

Is it very difficult here in the Philippines to find used laptop batteries, especially down here in the south. Maybe it's easier in Manila. I need to ask some friends there.

I'm still in the planning stage and hope to get some more input from you guys.

I run my chargers off a 100ah VRLA lead acid battery that I was able to revive. It is excellent in the event of a blackout. Apparently you can even run an Opus off one, as it has an internal DC-DC converter, however I have not verified this.

TheLiitoKala has an included car socket adapter, so I guess it is definitely made to run of the slightly higher than 12v found in Lead Acid batteries.

Definitely, blackouts are a nightmare for cell testing.

I still have two 12Vcar batteries and two UPS'ssitting around. Maybe I will make a little setup to use them for the testing.

And yes, the LiitoKala are running with 12V DC.

If you have the LiitoKala you can run them directly off a car battery. I just top the battery up every now and again. I was using a car battery. I go to local battery suppliers and buy old lead acid batteries for scrap price. When they die cost of ownership is $0. I was lucky enough to get a hold of a 100ah VRLA battery that recovered exceptionally well.
 
Im getting closer to 100 good cells and I hope they survive theself discharge test after 4 weeks.

2 more LiitoKala ordered since I still have hundreds of cells to test. My Fluke 15B+ arrived as well and is working great.

I moved my testing facility out of the house and setup my own temporary man cave. The walls will be still fixed.

Luckily my wife is supporting me as always. ;-)

Finally I have now more than 560 batteries together for my first PhilPowerwall (Phase 1)

Configuration: 7S80P

All cells repacked with repackr.

Result, 7 packs with an average capacity of 2,280.9 mAh

Total capacity: 4.73 kWh

Additionally I received my spot welder: Sunkko 709AD+

Now I'm waiting for the nickel strips to arrive.

Hi Hans

Just out of curiosity are you getting the single strip or the belt type of Nickel Strip. I ask because there is a sale on Aliexpress and have bought a spot welder and was thinking of going with the belt type of strip but cant seem to find anyone with video or picks on how they are using them. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be awesome.
