They heat upif you are trying to reach a terminal voltage outwith that specified by the manufacturers, as will all cells.

Even when charging as low as 200millamps they still heat, other cells such as Samsung and Panasonic are very ok

Sanyo cells are notorious for heating up when they reach about 4.15V and are being pushed towards the 4.2V full charge spec.

Normally what most have found here, is if you let them sit for a day, and then attempt another charge, they have a greater chance of recovering. Sometimes it takes 2 attempts.

Several members here have recovered "heaters", as they are commonly called, and have good cells with nice capacities.

If you do a search for "sanyo heaters" on the forum, you'll find lots of posts about this issue and much useful information. As well as various points of views of the pros/cons of attempting recovery on those cells

You might want to check the calibration of your imax chargers, Ihave a couple that are .9v off atcharge end.

I recall they do count during charging, if you are seeing a sensible count (such as 2300) during charging you'll likely have some reasonablecells.

But don't trust those cheap chargers to be accurate.
