Small Powerwall in Germany

Hi,
here are some pictures of my little Powerwall.
Unfortunately, the MPPT solar controller and the 48 volt inverter are still missing:(
The battery has been built in the style of AveRageJoe and Owitte:p
Each cell has 85AH.

Are the bus bars copper tubing, or ground rod?

They are copper pipes (tubing), 6x1mm oil pipe, were cheaper than copper bars (Ground rod):D
 
That's neat. Cool idea with the cell holders. Good idea with the pipe, I was going to flatten mine, but why? It can be bent, and replace the need for wire altogether. (was lucky enough to score several meters of air conditioning pipe from the side of the road)
 
Which grade of copper tubing is it; L or M?

Type M has a thinner wall
Type L has a thicker wall

The reason I ask is because the Type L will give you better power transmission as there's more metal to carry the power.

i think it is Type L

0.04" 25.4 = 1.016mm

"Type M half-inch pipe has a wall thickness of 0.028 inches while type L is 0.040 inches"

in Germany we don't have type M or L :)
 
I am not sure that it's a great idea to have the copper pipe fixed to the wall without electric insulation ! except if it's a plastic wall
 
Yeah, I suppose in Germany, you only have an option for Type L, due to the cold temps you can get. Maybe here in the states going up north Type M might not even be available.

However, I'm pretty sure if you use refrigerator water tubing, that's Type M, as it's very easy to bend. But then again, that's definitely inside the house and kept well above freezing (one would hope).

Side Note: I think the US should take notes from Germany and install solar panels along their highways/interstates. A good use for the blank space of real estate.

On the wall is no copper tube but 3 AWG copper cable (25mm2). Unfortunately brown in color.

The wall is clad with fermacell plates.
 
Sory, I need to change my glasses..... :)

The batteries now have a cupboard

Why not cut the legs of the fuses so you dont have to do all that bending ?

If the legs are longer, they are more flexible and therefore the vitreous does not break as fast as eg AverageJoe. Since I have only one busbar and all fuses are soldered there, quite a lot of power (movement power or so) is transferred to the legs of the fuses when I move something at the busbar.

I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. The small fuses do not break so fast when I fiddle with it :)
