Snowlar Panels and a slightly off topic use for surplus energy

Today 2.9Kw

Wolf

My best day so far this month has been 3.97 kWh.

I have another delivery of micro-inverters coming this week. Hopefully I will be able to get the rest of the panel's up on my main array this weekend putting it up to 24 panels in service.

I noticed last night while looking back through the individual inverter data that I've had two inverters down since end of August that's 1kWp worth of panel's not producing.

I'll be getting them swapped out ASAP. I must start looking at the panel data more not just the main info page. I could have missed this for some time.

I've been pondering Panels lately as I live in the great White North eh! (Canada) we get much less Sun hours in the winter so I will need to have enough solar in the winter to mostly take care of my needs and yet not have wayyy too much in the summer.

I was looking at the Canadian Solar panels (brand) and they have 300W panels on for $230 CAD + taxes and shipping but to get the 10kWh per day I need to run the house I need a pile of those.

Other than failures how are you finding the efficiency of those micro inverters?

The micro-inverters are great. I have a neighbour with 50+ft tall conifer trees. They cause a bit of shade on various panel's as the Sun moves around first thing in the morning. As the shading is only across the bottom edge of one or two panel's at a time, I still get the maximum generation from the non-shaded panels.

I'm sure your aware that when the panel's are on a single string i would only get what the weakest shaded panel would be producing from the whole string.

As a side note we had a letter from the neighbour only a couple of days ago to say they are concerned about how high the trees are getting and they will be getting a tree surgeon in to take the tops out. Amazing as I was only saying to the Mrs a few days earlier that I would ask them if I could get someone in to get them topped out. Saves me the expense and I won't get the shading this summer, win win.

So got home from work today to find out that the neighbour had gone all out mental with a chainsaw.
He's not topped the trees like he said would, he's felled the lot of them.
Very annoyed and will be calling the County Council tomorrow along with all my other neighbour's as the trees have a restrictive covenant on them preventing removal. The trees were original put in by order of the planning department as screening to cut down on the dust and noise between the block works and the neighbouring residential buildings.
We're now looking out at a block works factory behind the back garden, also I've got to to get out there and somehow dog proof it before I can let my boy run free in the garden or he'll be off and I will be out Looking for him.

Anyway that's enough of my whinging, Production was down again today at 2.83 kWh but still better than yesterday's 1.76 kWh.

Another good points also should a single panel to down, all the others will still generate up to their maximum output.

Where a string array is only as good as it's weakest panel.

Had another gain today, managed to produce 4.2 kWh.

None for me had a 8 inch Snowlar day yesterday which turned to concrete after it rained so no pushing the snow off of the panels. Sad
Sunny today too  Dodgy hopefully it will loosen the concrete up and it will slide off this evening.

If 18 X 650 = 2200+mAh then we have power!

Oh that sucks, like you say hopefully the sun will shift it.

Been a bit cloudy today so had a slight drop on yesterday's production, managed 3.69 kWh though.

Horrid miserable day today, overcast, cloudy and rain.

Managed to produce a feeble 0.58 kWh.

Massive increase over yesterdays feeble 0.58 kWh. Managed to generate 4.13 kWh today.

I had time to swap out the two faulty micro-inverters this afternoon, but i found i also have a panel down that was conected to one of the faulty inverters. So only three out of the four panels connected to them are back in service.
Annoyingly it's one thats in the middle of the top row, so going to be a bit of a sod to get at. May have to wait until the summer before I can swap that one out.
