Most forum softwares have some means of prohiting automated spam like we are experiencing at the moment. Maybe you should look into this. Or, if something like this is already active, there is a bug or security issue because it obviously doesn't work :)

You cant use too aggressive spam prevention without risking blocking genuine users. As this forum becomes more popular it will draw more spam. Being that it is built on 'out of the box' software it will have holes.

For the few resources the Amins and moderators have, they do an excellent job.

Nah, not really, everyone who is able to use the internet should be able to complete a registration process that is as good as impossible to complete for an automated script. Also, I'm not saying Pete, Mike and Daniel do a bad job, but in the long run this prevents unnecessary work so it makes their job easier.

If the problem with spam gets to big that will ba added or looked at in terms of expanding it. Currently we dont have much spam here and as soon as reported we get a message and can easily block that user/ip or whatever :)

For instance the google "Im not a spambot" prevents alot in terms of registering accounts.

The automated spam Mikes code stops is impressive! Much better than the 100's per day I used to have to deal with... It comes and goes.. I'll try spending more time in the day here to delete it as I see it. Everyone is doing a great job of reporting as soon as it happens. So for that I thank you for your help.

Yes, I've been doing that as well. Didn't know that it was that bad before. I thought it is pretty bad now. Oh well, nevermind.

Back in the day a bad day for spammers is 10,000 a day - you just end up deleting the DNS settings and go have a beer.

WOW!!! 3 pages of spam in general topic. Not gonna open each one and report it. I think you guys can handle it from here :p

Now, I will note, it's great that all the spam is happening in the same thread, and in the general offtopic thread at that. Makes it easy to select them and remove :)

Sorting it :) As soon as you mention spam they come in and honk hehe

Settings have been changed to require manual approval - that'll slow them and will be less effort than hunting for it lol

Just more work for you guys ;)

But, I suppose, since Snippy is off getting Taped up, you have time to do other things :p
