I'm also in Europe, just a few miles futher from the North Pole than your Capital is, could you outline the method of comparison you have used to come to that conclusion ?

Weight, platefull, fullness factor, calorific value, or just subjective ?

Yes, it's a problem here. You don't need to order the extra-large everything. People have become incapable of determining 1) What an acceptable amount of food to consume is and 2) What an acceptable amount of food to take is, thus increasing the portion that gets thrown out. So much waste...

Considering that a vast quantity of waste is in the US. Americans are extremely wasteful.
However, here in the US, farm conditions are far better than they are over seas in a lot of areas. Chickens are now required (wasn't this way 20yrs ago), to be allowed to go outside in the field if they so chose to do so. The field may not be very big, but they don't all go out at the same time. When I say not very big, maybe an acre for a hundred hens. I don't know the exact size off hand.
Nuts are expensive here in the US. 8oz can almonds is $7 or more. Peanuts are $4. Now, this is in my state of Fl. They may be cheaper in other areas of the country. If I want to get a can of cashews, almost $10 for 8oz.
The same thing for other small fruits/berries. We get bananas at $0.69/lb. But they arrive here green and bitter. You wait for them to "ripen" and they don't get a whole lot better tasting. I'm fortunate on the oranges. Largest producer is just down state from me.

As far as the chickens go, maybe the reason why the lay more eggs now than 150yrs ago is because they were selected to be "meatier" and increase in egg laying is a byproduct. But the fact of the matter is, regardless of how "many" eggs they lay a year, they lay far more than is required to reproduce. Considering they lay eggs regardless if they are bred or not. Birds in the wild do not do this with the exception of Turkeys and another foul (can't remember which one atm). They will lay an egg no matter what.

Also, here in the US, antibiotics are being pushed back. They aren't as prevalent in farming as it once was. There is a movement to change. Problem is, not everyone is on board, and those who are, aren't moving the front fast enough to compensate with growth.

As far as sustainability: Recycle, Reuse, Reduce. I try my best to do this. Problem is, sometimes it's to a crutch. "Ohh, I'll use this nice sheet of cereal cardboard for something", then end up with a stack of cardboard not being used Tongue At which point, it becomes fire starter material. So I suppose I did use it for something good Tongue
Point is, the whole forum is centered around the 3 R's. Sure there's some here who are buying new cells. However, they are also building the majority of their power units from scratch, using existing wood, metal, plastic, wire, etc. So a lot is getting reduced by the members here. This is a great thing.
Too bad the rest of the world isn't onboard yet Confused

In my area, it's laziness. I'm talking about a recycling bin and trash bin placed right next to one another. The recyclable beverage container gets thrown anywhere except for the recycling bin, including thrown on the ground. Seriously, just take that nanosecond time to think "gee, aluminum can, which bin does it go in". Zero effort is made by many people. /done ranting.

Yep mike, it's mostly laziness.

On the flip side, I love watching some of the YT vids where the good Samaritan tosses the trash back at the perpetrator Tongue One of my favs is the girl playing soccer, sees a car toss a can or box out the door. She runs over, kicks the trash, it hurls towards the car, hits the mirror, and back in thru the open window before it got rolled all the way up Tongue
