Hey Guys,

I have been looking around for these module for my 10kWh build and have a kind of question I guess. Not sure if this is the right section plz move it if it is not.

OK, so I found a place in the US that is selling 4 Tesla Model S battery modules, 24V, 21.2kWh, 1776 Panasonic 18650 cells for $5,120 plus $800 shipping. All in USD converting this to AUD is around $8393.11. Shipping is by Sea to the nearest port. In my case that would be Brisbane. Just take a day drive to pick them up.

I also found a guy in Brisbane wreaking a Tesla. I asked him how much for the battery modules. He said $2,500 ea.

I would like to get 4 of these But while searching around for these things I came across the so called price for a replacement Tesla Battery which is $35,000 not sure if this is USD but i think so. So that woulds be just under $50,000 with 16 module per battery pack. Keep in mind that they would be brand new cells.

I still need to check with custom for stamp duty (GST would not be applicable as good are second hand) but will let you know when I find out.

So my question that is not really a question is any thoughts on the options above or any other suggestion to getting my 10kWh battery up and running quickly as I don't have a great deal of time to do the single cell method to start with.

Thanks for listening. Have a fun day.

I think you must have been under the influence of intoxicating substances when you wrote that.

If youvegot that much money to spend, and you want that much capacity, just buy a 12kWh Fronius.

And a Symo.

Thanks but the conversion on this is $21,800. Over double the costof what i wrote earlier for the recovered Tesla modules.

Thanks anyway. Have a nice day.

You would buy it locally, Fronius is rather well liked down there.

Have you considered what else is required to turn those Teslas modules into a fully functional system ?

Having imported EV battery modules into AustraliaI would recommend you do your homework, and then do it again. There are a number of pitfalls surrounding used EV batteries, so make sure you have confidence you know the providence of the battery modules i.e. where did they come from, why were they removed, what condition were they in when removed (charged/not charged).Purpose made solutions likeFronius are definitely worth looking at, but they can beexpensive, but sometimes worth doing if you want a simple solution. Good Luck :)

As above.

There's plenty of plug and play systems being installed down there, you might even get some Government assistance via grants or rebates.

Other manufacturers to look at are SMA and Victron, both have on and off grid options. Being time poor and money rich isn't the best way start such a large capacity project, turning a ex EV module into a safe and reliable fully proven working system isntsomething to be undertaken in a hurry.

You could also consider locally supplied Winston or Calb prismatic LiFePo4 cells.

If you have seen my intro. in this forum I came here to learn this iswhy I am asking a question.
Plz dont assume that I am rich just because I need to get something done in a hurry.
It is still $20,000 for the Fronius. I am currently looking into the Victron for their all in one system (The EasySolar combines a MPPT Solar Charge Controller, an inverter/charger and AC distribution in one enclosure.) These arearound $5000. But thatdoes notinclude batteries for storage.
The Tesla batteries are fully tested and come with a warranty. The ones from the US. The ones from OZ will also be tested not sure about a warranty. I have seen videos of ppl using these in off grid systems and believe there would not be much else than wiring them to the above mentioned Vitron. Plz let me know if I am wrong about that.

Once again thanks for your help in the matter.
