The what information do you keep regarding your cell harvest

Just wandered what if any info people are keeping regarding the cell harvesting? Do you keep battery info as well as cell?
Where you got them from? Or just the capacity after testing and that's it?

Capacity written only... :/

I've been trying to record make/model/serial number of batteries, source but it's slowing me down... (As in it takes time to unpack each battery, note down its info, and the cell info). As well as cell make/model, initial voltage, then the test info, date of test, voltage after test, voltage after a few weeks mah etc... Overkill?

Was thinking of being able to use that info in the future to help identify trends in failures (eg low voltage ones failing sooner) etc

Is it overkill?

It depends on the number of cells you're working with. I've tested probably 25,000 cells at this point. It reaches a point where it's just not practical to track such information. As you mentioned, it's already slowing you down. I would say stick to the capacity only, maybe internal resistance if you have a proper tester. I don't see the other information being useful.

I mark on the capacity and the voltage tested after testing for a min of 1 hour. This lets me find self dischargers quickly for the ones that are really bad as the opus is pretty good at getting the cells back to around 4.18v. Any below 4.1 go into a bin for playing or recycling. The rest are left for a few months and then right before I build a pack I'll check it again. And what I look for is not to drop more than 0.06v over that time

+1 on capacity written on the cell.
I was keeping other information but worked out I would never use it it so stopped adding work.

Have recorded near 1400 cells using similar method to unclebob.
I have an excel sheet that I put a macro/form that helps me to navigate and fill the rows.
I have been sorting cells into similar groups and bulk entering the info.

Also programmed in are the date code conversions (so I don't have to go out to the web to check).

I am sitting here with about 700 more cells (just received) thinking is it too much?
At the moment I am looking at laser printing a label for each cell with a unique number for use like Brett's Arduino 8x project.
Then a second label I would attach after testing with capacity.

Wasn't going to record on the cell voltages etc. That's what the unique id was for and the bar-code.
Excel can be setup to use the bar-code scanner and select the line to update. But just investigating this at the moment ... haven't programmed it.

When entering cell data it's based on maker. Have for Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, & LG

In the spreadsheet I colour the cells automatically as they are in real life based on make/model.
I started with the list on this website then made corrections by looking up cell data sheets and filling in more data etc. (that I could or have come across.)
WISH that the database on Second Life Storage was in a format that was more usable (i.e. excel or csv etc.)

If you have corrections or missing data, please let us know so we can update the cell database...

Bubba, are you able to share your sheet with me? Give me an idea of what to keep, and what to get rid off, plus that sheet of the cell types would be good for my setup if your happy to share! life would be great if the celldatabase had the ability to pull via an api!

I test the capacity and after a full recharge I note down the voltage it is at. Then a couple weeks later I check the voltage again and write it on the cell.

So every cells looks like this for example

2800
4.20-> 4.18

Most of my cells now are rom ebike packs so I keep them grouped in their original packs, 40-60cells, until Im using them. That way I know that this group of cells has same usage, roughly same IR etc.

Dude, that is amazing. I envy your Excel skills.

Excel files are not allowed. How to upload it?

I do want to put out there that the base worksheet (without the macros) came from another power waller :)
And I just enhanced it. What really got me is I like hitting ENTER. So the Form I added solves that problem.
It is still a work in progress.

To Do:
- add up/down arrows to the form instead of just a drop down
- add buttons for Heater, DEAD, Won't Charge, Damaged, Recycled
- add Bar-code scanner that selects the cell and jumps automatically for the expected next entry for that cell
- add that was easy button  ha ha ha

.xlxs & .xls are permitted but max 1meg I'll increase it for you

Use new attachments to upload your excel files :p

I had to zip it inorder to include the jpg files for the battery pics. (lazy programmer I am).
The file is 5.12MB

Hey bubba, did you manage to upload it?

Nope the excel sheet has macros which can't be uploaded *.xlsm format.
Also size is 5.2M and because it has external images I zipped it.
I could upload seperate, but that also didn't work.

I have never posted or share files form google drive or any other service so not sure where to go from here.
