I've completed my first pack of 60 x 18650 cells in parallel. Getting hold of cells is slowing me down.

A few details:
  • Have used twisted AC cable for the busbars based on @flyjabiru11
  • Fuses are 5amp fuse wire (tinned copper 35SWG) on the positive side.
  • Used cable ties to firm up the pack linking -ive and +ive bus bars.
  • The terminals on both positive and negative are XT150.
  • Cable on terminals are 8AWG 200degree C flexible silicon.
  • Tinned but joints are soldered to busbars and flexible cable is crimped into other end of joint.

My long term project will be 7 of these packs in series to replace 2 aging AGM batteries currently in use.

THAT is neat, and love the idea of soldering to the pack saving the need for crimped ends. good/interesting to see how it lasts. Great work
 



Second pack complete. Just 5 more to go, but need more cells urgently. Note the XT150 bayonet connectors. They should make replacing packs a breeze. As the name suggests, they are rated at 150 amps. Doubt if my use of these packs will draw (or charge)anywhere near that.

I've started making balances cables for my packs so that I can join them in parallel before use and when maintenance is required. As I'm using XT150 connectors this is really very easy. Simply disconnect the series connections and run my parallel balance cables down the positive and negative side of the packs.

Looking good like the idea of xt150 connectors. Looks like it will reduce the chance of pete's short.

That's why I went that way, plus the easychange over of a pack down the track.
I saw somewhere that someone (can't remember who, think it was on YouTube) who balanced there packs in parallel, so adapted their principle with the XT150 connector cable. Makes it very easy to balance the packs.
I plan to add 2mm bayonets for the BMS and balance system cables as well.

Very nice. Was looking at doing similar, and use XT150's. I was also going to do another fly at the bottom, to reduce current load, and to add additional battery packs.
