I'd like to recommend to the moderators that a new section be formed for EV batteries, Just a thought.

As long as 18650's can be found cheap, this website will remain the "go to" place for info on harvesting, testing, and building packs from those. However, I think wrecked EV packs will grow in popularity.

Here's an awesome video on pulling the pack from a Toyota Prius, in order to replace it after about ten years of use. Of course a Prius that is only a year or two old can get in a wreck, so those would be the ones that wewould want.

The individual modules reveal is at 13:40. The posts on each module are threaded, super easy to wire up. The number of cells inside each module is dependent on the year.

I will look for the amp-hour rating, and also the max amps C-rate

as we get a bit of data for each subforum we can split but looks pretty bare when only a handful of threads are in a group. Other cells other than 18650ies was motive for changing name from DIYPowerwalls.com to Secondlifestorage.com

As a great man once told me (thanks Carel)Toyota models, includingLexus brands with hybrid combustion engine have nihm batteries, they aresmall too, and oftenuseless for solar batteries. I would proceed carefully before purchasing Prius batteries.

Ultimately you may be able to use them, but me personally theadvice from Carel has always been spot on. Which is why I wont buy anything else but LEV40 and LEV50 batteries from Outlander PHEV's.... or Tesla packsif I could get them in Australia :)

starting with the 2015 Prius hybrid, the Prius use lithium cells
The fourth gen 2015 models and later used lithium ion.

Interesting. All the research and investigations I carried out I never found a Prius, Crown, or Lexus hybrid with Lithium/Ion battery cells. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place

Are the Lithium battery cellsprismatic? I couldn't determine from photos etc.

Mark,
Floyd is right,
model name here in Europe is Prius+, but rarely seen. and yes these are Lithium, but small capacity per car

Had just 1 pack in 3 years.
see this link:https://insideevs.com/disassembly-of-the-2017-toyota-prius-li-ion-battery-video/
95 cells 25Ah, 8.8Kwh total, m10 threaded terminals,
bms wires are live, don't cut , but loosen bms connectors etc, I did the dirty job, with lot's of smoke

I just do not focus on these, but more on the GS YUASA TESLA BMW VAG, like Volkswagen/Audi, better capacity per pack, and all trending to work with SIMPbms

best Carel

Hey Carel, thanks for that. I've never seen them on offer in my region, and sounds like they are rare where you are. And yes, given the small size of the packs they may only be worthwhile for some folks. There you go, I learnt something today :)
