Vanon Batteries .... Yeh - did they dupe me?
#21
What you could do is order 2 more batteries. 1 with your specific name, and the other from another name. See what you get. If the one that comes to your name/address has Samsung cells again, and the one under the pseudo name/address are other cells, you'll have a better picture of what's going on.

The warning on legit LG cells is sometimes hard to read as well so this is no sign of faked cells.

What you should do is confront Vanon with your findings once you think they are conclusive to allow them to give a statement on the situation. If you go public with it without talking to them first (or at least trying to, in case they don't answer) you put yourself in a weak situation because then they could easily say that you are not really interested in solving the issue. You only want to create publicity for yourself and damage Vanon and so on. This has happened far too often when disclosing something, especially when you've never done it before. It's an important lesson to learn because even if it isn't true they will use this against you to make you look bad and protect their business.
If they don't cooperate or if their answer is not satisfying you can still point your finger at them afterwards and you will find yourself in an ever stronger position because you can say that you offered them your support but they weren't interested.

I'm new here after watching your video but I couldn't help but respond because I watched your video because I searched the words batteries and vanon. I recently got the Worx Hydroshot for my birthday around the end of may and I only had 1 2v power share 2.0ah battery. In seeing the price of the 4ah from worx it was $90usd. I did a quick search on ebay to find a seller that goes by vanyum

You can see on that ebay page a photo of the batteries from in your video. Also there page doesn't have any mentions of what cells are used. Just that they are lithium batteries so I had no expectations coming into it.
I purchased 2x 4.0ah "max lithium" batteries from them for a total bill of $57.20. HELL you can't beat that.

I have 2 pictures I just took. I only had the 2ah pack to start but the batteries in that pack are the samsungs which imo have great output and last the full rated 30 minutes on my hydroshot. The 2 other batteries I had recieved had a sticker on the bottom that states they are vanon which you see in the picture. The batteries in that pack and the other pack from them are identical but there is nothing on the cells from either pack. If I didn't need them I would gladly butcher them up and pop the wraps off but they are blank on the outside. I will be following this thread as well as chiming in some more as it develops. Getting what is advertised or what they told you was in the pack is good business practice and I like where you are going with this.

EDIT: My apologies on the photos. I tried to add them but as this was my first post I wasn't able to add "links"

@comtech: thanks for the info. However, your images didn't come through. You can do a full edit on your previous post and add the pictures by either dragging them to the bottom section or clicking the bottom section and browsing with the file selection window.

The problem is that the 3rd party battery sellers almost never state what cells are used in the battery. At these low prices it is unreasonable to expect proper, name branded cells and nowhere did they advertise that Samsung cells are used. This is why it stinks so much because they sent Pete a battery with Samsung cells to review, probably to leave the impression that all batteries use these cells, while everyone else receives the no name cells.

I feed duped - yeh sure I got a bunch of good cells but I've I'VE ripped you guys off by false advertising - I have updated the description of the video to link it here - the Hardest part is now it's the best performing $$$$$ wise on youtube at the moment and this income forms a part of my mortgage payments every month

I would never have looked at my cells until I watched your video. I've added the pictures I took to my previous post. Although they aren't the cells you received my cells are more then adequate and still have the same features the other batteries would minus the battery % display. I've already cycled them more then 5 times since I purchased both of my 3rd party packs and they still work as great as I expected. I'm sure you will come to the bottom of this and make any corrections. It's the reason I've come to love your channel. If they did in fact put cells of higher quality in your battery specifically for review that is shady but I don't think it will change the way I feel about them as a company. Being honest sometimes is the best medicine though and they should be honest in sending you a review sample.

I don't think that anyone feels ripped off. Well, certainly I don't. It's not your fault if someone else decides to be potentially dishonest.

At the moment I'm about to buy some Ryobi tools for the first time, just because they have some interesting tools that no one else makes. Especially the battery powered hot glue gun is what I'm interested in.

Anyway, so I also checked for the batteries and the original 5.0Ah battery is a whopping 105 EUR (122 USD / 165 AUD) on Amazon at the moment. And there are three different sellers each selling slightly different "replacement batteries" between 32 and 40 EUR per piece. So there is even some competition in the market. And the reviews are mixed, as expected.
The good ratings are split into two groups. Some customers are satisfied and leave favorable reviews without giving any details. Some give good ratings and tell about their usage and almost always you'll find that these are low power applications like running some lights, the fan or a drill.
And the bad reviews are basically split into two groups as well. Some are unhappy about the longevity and report a lifetime of some days or some cycles up to 6 months at best. And the other group complains about their tools not working properly and these are almost exclusively high drain applications like using an angle grinder.
No one opened the battery to check the individual cells but I didn't expect that anyway. 99% of all customers can't or won't do that.

It's interesting to see that the cheapest of the three products is rated a bit worse, on average, than the other two. But generally all three have the same issues. And this is perfectly fitting in my opinion. The cheap cells, if they survive, run low power tools perfectly and give up on the high power tools. I'd think it's the same for the Vanon batteries.

So, a bit of a "No shit, Sherlock?" moment here I guess. Nothing really surprising. If you only need little power then you might get away with a cheap knockoff, otherwise get the real stuff.
Not sure about the relevance of these "findings" for the situation at hand now that I finished wrinting it down, but oh well Big Grin
