Hi All
first post so pls be gentle, i suspect ti am asking rather open-ended questions...
1 - is it worth building my own own300Ah 12V Lithium bank for Campervan
2 - What basic building blocksare best for my needs

Some aspects for consideration
I do have a sparkie mate who can do the wiring/build if necessary as Im a carpenter, not an electrician :p
Im looking for reliability/hassle-free
Am I better just buying off the shelf LiPO4 battery?

thanx in advance

Short Answer: Yes
Extended: There are several others on the forum that have built, or are building, an RV or Van using lithium based cells. Several are listed under the "DIY Battery Project Builds" section.

Highly recommend reading the FAQ as it will most likely answer a lot of your questions.

Yes its a worthwhile project.
I built several 12 volt lithium powerpacks for my van. I built a 94ah 3s 11.1 volt (168 cells) and also 2x 110ah 4s 12.8 volt (80 cells) lifepo4 battery packs.

The lifepo4 is closer to the 12 volts of a lead acidand will charge with any solar charge controller. It would be more hassle free. The li-ion is more power for the size weight. Even though my 94ah li-ion has more cells, it weighs less then the lifepo4, I can carry it with one hand all day long. Also if I had use higher quality cells, the li-ion would equal or surpass the lifepo4 in AH. The li-ion you can also charge with solar, you just have to monitor it more closely. Even though li-ion has a lower voltage it has run everything my lead acid use to run, my inverters have never quit because of low voltage.

I use the lifepo4 like I would a lead acid its a work horse, the li-ion on the other hand are lightweight backups that are just as powerful as the lifepo4. I wanted to go 100 percent lifepo4 but its very hard to give up the li-ion, they both will work in your campervan.

To build them you need hot gluegun, tab welder (maletrics has a good one) and a solder gun (40 watt at least). For fuse wire I been using 28 gauge copper on my latest builds. I have also been using the xt60 connectors on all my battery packs.I build my batteries inside my van so its not something requiring a workshop. Just build a small one first and wire it up with a bms and run it, when you got the basics worked out, you can ramp it up to a much bigger battery pack. For me building a 300ah lifepo4 battery would not be anything I couldnt tackle. You save alot of money by building it yourself, and you get good advice here in the forum and on youtube. Thats how I learn.
