hi,
I got my watchmon4 a few weeks ago and Ive just plugged it all up, I did the setup, network test anddevice sync, the only thing is, my longmons are really hot to the point of you cant touch them AT ALL
Ive unplugged them now, just to be safe,
What is wrong or whatam I doing wrong?
Any help would be great,
Thanks,
Phil.

That means they are a burning a lot of power off and at full speed. Show a picture of the Batrium software showing your cells and stats while they are running. That'll help explain a few things.

The longmons are designed for bleeding off excess power. So yeah, they'll get hot when they are working to balance the packs.

The longmons will normally get quite hot when they are bypassing (dissipating power to drop the cell voltage).

What voltages are your cells with a multimeter & did you set the cell type & voltage correctly in the watchmon setup?

Sync after any changes so the longmons get updated.....

Thanks for the replies, I have just checked the voltage of the packs and they are all within 4.3v-4.6v with the exception of 2 packs that are lower, they are 3.94v and 3.98v
Could it be the wm4 is trying to lower the packs to the lowest one?

Ive just plugged them all back in again and its changed a little, there are only 2 packs that have the red light on, and them packs are the highest voltage, pack 10 has 4.7v and pack 3 has 4.8v
So I guess its burning off to get down to the rest?
In the time its took me to write this, number 3 has dropped slightly, so I guess its sorting itself out,

What cell type is it ment to be on?
And what voltage?

Also the packs are on the screen are reading the wrong way, it reads my packs right to left, how do I get it to read the pack the other way?
Thanks again,
Phil.

4.3 to 4.6 WTF? What kind of cells do you have?

Lithium SHOULD NOT be above 4.35 and generally not above 4.2V.
Default on Batrium its set to 4.1 or 4.2V so it will of course bleed of the excess energy. You set the voltage to what ever type of cells you have

it reads the way you have set up the longmons. If you want it the other way around you need to swap the wires on the Watchmon arount. ie the far end swapped agaisnt the closest end.

Lol, my mistake, they are 4.03v - 4.06v 18650s I bet that woke you up :-D

Ill swap them round, and sync them again,
Hopefully that will all be correct,

Thanks very much to all for the help and input,
I would be stuck without you guys,
Phil.

All swapped around and looking loads better, I think Ill attach a bulb or something to drain pack number 12 a bit quicker,
At the min though, Im very pleased with it all, thanks to you guys,
Just one more thing, does the wm4 move the volts to other packs or does it just take it out the higher pack?
Thanks,
Phil.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU,
All done, the pack has come down to nearly no red above it and all the tests are complete,

I must say that the longmon wires are a bit weak, after only being plugged in 3 times at most, there are some lose wires now in the plugs, is there anything you guys do to prevent this happening?

MASSIVE THANKS TO YOU GUYS AGAIN,
Phil.

You have to be careful with the cables.
They are designed to be thin so they can (more) safely fuse if needed.
The WM1, WM4 & longmons, etc just waste excess power as heat when bypassing, they don't do active balancing.
Once your pack is balanced, they shouldn't need to bypass much.

Thanks redpacket,
They are a bit poor really, Ill be more careful in the future,
I might take off packs 1, 6 and 10 just to give them a charge and catch up to the rest, that way they will be more balanced ;-)
Thanks,
Phil.

The wires are made very thin for fusing purposes as said earlier and should break if there is a short in the longmons. Yes they are thin :p So installe them and tie them down and let them sit there :D

Just charge the system up and let the Batrium balance the other packs meanwhile 1, 6 and 10 gets fully charged ;) Easier since you have a system that can do it.

It was just a thought, Charging them separately, Ill let the system charge them up, thanks again DAROMA you are a life saver,
Im very, very pleased everything is up and running great,
Thanks again to everyone,
Phil.

If they are far off it will go faster to charge them one by one but if they are rather close let the Batrium work :)

Ha ha, I did the same thing on the weekend when I plugged mine in for the first time, I was like WTF? But I did lots of subsequent reading and googling to figure some of it out.

I also had the joy of trying to figure out which longmon cable was faulty. Murphy's law said it was the last one I tried! The network test showed all the lights on, but the comms just wasn't working - was very confusing for a new install.

Now I need to watch a few vids to figure out the optimal settings...
