I found this attached to the batteries in laptop, can any one briefly discuss about functionality of this component?

Yup. That there is a thermal fuse. A bit different from a NTC. Not "exactly" sure how they work, tho. They don't quit work like a regular glass fuse.

When i remember correctly, they can recover or they dont recover, in the same case. So you have to check the type.
Usually the temp is directly printed on in.
