What to do with these packs

Hi,
A friend got infected by my battery virus and now he is chasing all his contacts for batteries.

recently he came around with li-ion batteries from piaggio hybrid 3wheel motorbikes.

We opened a pack yesterday and they have 37v with a 10s2p configuration with pouch cells. All in all 1.5kWh per pack. The pack still was at 30v but i havent peformed any further testing so far.

Interesting, the whole pack is covered by a hard plastic box which is filled with some kind of silicone, i.e. you cant disassamble it, you have to use it as it is, in case it is still working. The pack seems to have its own bms but this is encased by hard and tough plastic. We were not able to get there.

I could have some of thes packs but my question is, what to do with 37v configuration together with my powerwall in 14s configuration...


Any ideas what to do with this packs welcome!

you don't say how many of these batteries you have , each one when new had the capacity of about 140 new (3Ahr) 18650 cells ,.... i'd first see what the remaining capacity each battery has . By putting a 4s , ?p 18560 pack in series they could be made compatible with your existing system.
 
Aaaah, get your point. Taking these packs together with 4s 18650 to top up to 48v nominal...

I have to test the pack what it can deliver...

Currently i do hav just the one pack for testing but he promised to have more for me but no exact numbers.

How to manage bms issue...? The pack has most probably its own but how to align with further 4s...

I could go for higher voltage at all but this makes integration with my setup quite challenging
 
when i put them in series, how could an inverter setup look like. any charger/inverter that is affordable?

If those cells are good and you can get a lot of them, I'd try to go 72V by serialing two cells

Well, you'd have to have 72V rated inverter and charger. At the least wiring will be even smaller/cheaper ;)
 
Look at some of the MGE series UPS units, they are 36V and the larger 3000VA units are 72V. Borri UPS units are also 72V for the older 3000VA units.
Solar charge units for 36V are reasonably common, 72V MPPT chargers are very few at the moment if you exclude all the fake Chinese MPPT listed but actually PWM controllers.
Charging 72V off any PSU is quite cheap using the 1500W boost converters that are less than $20 each. Feed them with 50V and get up to 90V out in CC CV mode.
In terms of to grid the GTIL units take voltages for 72V packs and are 1000W or 2000W output.
 
You could potentially make your own MPPT controller. It's actually very simple to do. Julian Ilett made his MUPPET that is just that. A custom MPPT controller. Check out his youtube channel. Now, that video list doesn't have all of the videos that correspond to the MUPPET. He didn't use the name in every video that pertained to it. Maybe MPPT could be searched for as well.

Basically he took an arduino, inductors, capacitors, diodes, and a few FETs. He was getting >95% efficiency out of it.
 
Hi, I just got two of these in a very good condition.
But the BMS or what it is seems to block access.
A red LED is blinking on the top, where the fuse and and this button is.
Any way to use also the BMS and electronic of these packs?

I can access the cell poles directly, but would be nice to use also the BMS fuse,... of the whole pack.
