Hi,

I'm a new member to this board and the past couple days I've been digging through the wealth of knowledge that this community has to offer!

Its really cool to see so many enthusiastic people all in the same place, working on similar projects.

Has there everbeen a conversation to consolidate the knowledge in thiscommunityinto a editablecentral repository like a Wiki?

I use Arch Linux primarily for the community wiki they offer as it find a great place to build upknowledge before asking questionson the forums.
wiki.archlinux.org

Just my 2cents,

Cheers,
Pouakai

I & others have put much time & money into this repository of information for the community - but it's all about getting as many people on the planet involved in this community/activity/skill/group/obsession if wiki works get after it I say!

Agreed, I believe your videos got me to this Gold mineor should I say Lithium mine haha,

I can only see more and more momentum in this space as more and more peoplestart to decentralize their power grids.

It would be greatto have all the information organized, up to dateand open to everyone!

I agree. A wiki has been discussed in the past but I think it was discarded at the time (not sure why as it's been quite awhile).

There is the FAQ, but it does need an overall and re-work. I've compiled it together into a thread, but I'm not the one who came up with the information in it. That was the contribution of many other members.
But there has been loads of new information that has been presented since the FAQ was initially put together. It's not so much as outdated, but just insufficient in available knowledge (plus, the navigation is a bit bonkers :p )

The wiki is good for static information - the forum is an evolution in learning... different objectives.

With that said the FAQ would be a good starting point for a Wiki.... page for each FAQ item... (all/selected) members can add/edit the pages...

The wiki would have to have some sort of structure or a free for all on slight variations, which might not end well....
Items : Inverters / Solar panels / Cells / Spot welders / MPPT Controllers / etc.
Build manual : Busbars - different options - page for each, etc.

Each build could have a starting page which can then link to the other items/build maual/etc. the links are one of the most challenging parts to actually cross link what is relevant..

Would be a bit of work to keep it in a good order as it grows, once built up to a certain level it would be a go-to library for build information.

I figured the Wiki would just have a menu on the left to everything. The user can then jump to what ever section they chose. But I suppose at the end of each specific page there could be a "Related Articles" section, as well.

Can we have a wiki style page on this site? maybe not editable by everyone, but something that's more like a navigation page instead of forum layout.

The wiki would be a condensed library of the actual useful detail from the discussions, like the different knowledge about crimping terminals for example.

The forum is good for interactive discussion / engagement, especially with project builds where the builder is going through a learning curve and needs feedback and questions answering. The interactive angle of the forum is what brings people in and really engages them. The wiki would never replace that element, just add to the value of the site in a knowledge center, where the basic answers can be found that are then linked. Soldering cells linked with cell fusing linked with busbar options linked with circuit breakers, etc..

Where the wiki could fit in starts off with the FAQ and it would be from the FAQ that would lead to other pages / lists of links, etc. A wiki for the FAQ would be far better than a series of posts...

If you can enable a wiki section for the site it would then be interlinked.... users captive to the site.

Finding detail in the current posts is difficult, the PIP link that you posted in an article recently (to anoither site) is up to 66 pages of responses and discussion that varies wildly off track to what the post started off as, but the core of the posts is really useful and when stripped out is relatively short.... The wiki would eliminate all the off-track discussion and be a core knowledge base.

Yes a lot of work, but, the time that is put in to creating the wiki would develop a knowledge base that is nowhere else on the net... the google of powerwalls...

The beauty of well implemented wiki's is they grow organically with the community size and the knowledge base of the users over time, while the information is statically stored in the wikis repository it can be organised, updated and edited by anyone with access rights.

Who would maintain/moderate said wiki? What about duplicating content between the forum vs the wiki? Sounds like a lot of extra work to manage for what could be just posted here?

I guess that question comes down to the community leaders around here if that's something they are willing to step up to?

There might be a solution where only users with eg. 50+ Posts on the forum can submit changes everything else needs to be moderated by a mod..

In turn though even though it might look like a lot of work to start with (and I'm sure that it is) Awell organised central library of knowledge would at least prevent some users from posting the same questions that us noobies all ask the vets ;) especially as the user base grows.

And hopefully refinediscussions even further as people can use the Wiki as reference point for technical conversations.

Yeah Agreed, the FAQ's the placeto startfor sure! When I first got on the site I had so many questions and the FAQ wasn't immediately apparentI had to do a little bit of digging to find it.

Lots of work I agree, Howevermany hands make light work. That's the power of community knowledge bases so long as the framework, standards and moderationis setup correctly.

I agree. I don't think it would be too hard to moderate. Perhaps ask for volunteers and just approve a select few users, rather than just a generic criteria.

However there will always be the odd difference of opinion. Allowing too many authors on a Wiki can lead to disputes. Which in turn will lead to extra work for the moderators.

Start with the FAQ Wiki..... you may descover that the FAQ section ends up very large...
