Hi,

I have some e-bike akkus, 36V which I would like to take apart to get the single cells.
Initially, they are sealed in a bag, against humidity and covert with some black material, something like rubber.
At the moment I first scratch the surface of a pole free to see the conture of the pole.
Then I use a chisel, to get rid of the stoppers on top of the cells, that keep them in their position.
When one pole is visible in it's borders I tear of the connecting metall that is welded on the cells to build a parallel pack. After this I clear the other side of the pole and take of the metall strips also.

Then I use a plasic pipe a little bit smaller in diameter then the cell and hit with a hammer on the bottem of the cell, to press them out of the cage. Most of the cells unfortunately loose their isulation in this process, and I would like to avoid that. But I am not able to take apart the cage itself.

Has anyone a suggestion, how to get this cage appart a better way?

Looks like a difficult pack to take apart. Don't be too concerned about the cell insulation. Just buy some new heatshrink and re-wrap them.

Hi Geek,

yes indeed, it is difficult, and only force is helping me.
I will add new heatshrinks to the ones that are useable afterwards...

I have had 2 packs made the exact same way!

I did essentially the same, chopped off the plastic holders at the ends, pulled off the tabs, but then I used a hydraulic press to press them out for one of the packs.

what helps to sometimes preserve some of the cells wrapping is to actually use something of the same diameter as this then pushes the wrap down with the cells, otherwise the rubber keeps the wrap stuck at the walls.
funnily enough the second pack was the exact model you have here, and the cells came out relatively easily. The ones around the edge were more tough, was I did there was to cut the cells holder open on the side, then I pried the cell at an angle. Once you get one cell out the cell holder deforms easier and the rest isnt hard.
still took me 2 hrs to disassemble though...
