was wondering about using a gasifier/ wood gas fuel to power a generator to supplement my electrical needs during times of need or to avoid the grid
what do you think of this and would any other specific equipment be necessary for this?

Definitely possible. Getting a turbine capable will be the biggest hurdle. Then it's just sizing the generator and being able to charge with some control

what do you mean by turbine capable? i was thinking along the lines of using an actual generator i am just not sure about getting the correct inverter as well as the possibility of a generator designed to better run off of the generator

Ahh I was thinking of making steam. Yea if you get that working would be neat. Would you be making a DC gen or AC?

well turbines and generators all operate the same so AC i dont believe i have a choice in that unless a converter is built into the generator

There are DC generators out there. Just think of the 50s cars all had 6V and later 12V DC generators with external regulators. just a small field coil adjustment for voltage change.

I wish I still had the OLD generator that Did AC but had a 20A 12V DC charger

Well the new Alternators on cars are 3 phase AC which is then rectified to 13.8 or so volts DC. Some of them are rated at 120 to 180 Amps.
Just need something with 12V to feed the field and a motor strong enough to spin it. :p
