There is a lot of information and misinformation regarding lifepo4 and float charging with solar. Curious with those that have solar and other charge sources think about float and what they can do if their charger can't disable the float stage?

Float charging and float voltage refers to charging a battery after charging has completed to compensate self discharge. This is not necessary for lithium cells and will potentially damage the cells and might even be dangerous. LiFePO cells are very stable and robust so it isn't really overly dangerous, but it's still wrong to apply float charge to a lithium cell. If float charging can't be disabled on a solar charge controller then it shouldn't be used to charge lithium cells.

Most people that have chargers that can't be disabled fake a disabling. They set the float charge to the same as the max cuttoff voltage. So the charger basically will never float.
