So i see if you reverse the polarity of the cell it destroys the chip.

Isthere another option to protect from this? an updated chip?

Just about to buy a bunch and build a charger running of an old PSU and before I do I want to line it up right.

There are several ways this can be accomplished.

Here isan easy way.

Also a description of several other ways.

No, the diode is not in series with the cell during charging.
It shorts the cell if it is inserted the wrong way, allows the current to flow through a fuse instead of through the chip.

Exactly it has saved at least 10 of my TP4056 boards already. Not that they are not cheap enough but I dont want to have to resolder
a new board everytime I make a stupid mistake. I just grab another fuse and insert the cell the right way :D

40: Micro USB TP4056 8.52 for 40 .213 cents per
2 amp quick blow fuses 2.64 for 100 .026 cents per
Fuse cost is a 10th of the board and I do not have to replace/resolder it. :D :D :D

Reverse Polarity Protection. Lots of threads on the topic. The above are a few ways ppl have done it. Others are using fuses, FETs, relays, etc.
