Advice on buying used EV battery packs

Hi,
I am looking for information on used EV battery packs and what to look out for when buying them.
What are good sources to buy them (in Europe) ?
What are "good" prices for them ?
Is there a place that compares them and maybe gives more information about physical stuff (weight, size, maybe even mounting spots)?
I am looking for something in the 20 - 30kWh Range (so a leaf battery would fit right in) but the ones I can find have basically no information available about them and all the (online) shops I found are from dubious countries like spain and romania.
The packs I found are usually in the 3000-4000€ range for a 24kWh, which to me feel quite expensive for a used pack that might only have 50% of its capacity left and might be 12 years old.
Especially given that a new BYD battery with 12kWh is 5000€ and I would be on my own for support.

I am thinking about calling car shops in my area if they have one available (which I could verify and check the millage of the car), but I haven't done so yet and given how hard it is to buy them online I doubt they have any available.

TLDR:
- Where to get a used EV Battery (in Europe) ?
- What is a sane price (per kWh) ?

Sincerely Thalhammer

Depends where you are. Shipping is massive if you transport it from eastern europe to western europe.

Me personally live in Finland, so I buy packs from Norway. I can highly recommend https://gbd.no/utvalgte-deler/batteripakke-elbil/

Sane price is ~4500€ for a 60kWh Tesla battery, or 64kWh Kia/Hyundai battery.

I am located in germany. I just called local shops and as expected none have any (or ever had).
However the last one told me that apparently they aren't even allowed to sell them to private (even if they had some) cause you need a certificate to work with them, which explains why I couldn't find a single german online shop selling them.
Seems like driving said battery at 200km/h across a street is somehow safer than having it laying in a garden shed in the middle of nowhere.
I'll look into the website you posted, however 4.5k for 60kWh is already an order of magnitude lower than what I found so far (cheapest was 4.5kWh for a 24kWh leaf).

Checked the page of your's and it looks a lot more reliable than all I found so far. I'll have to contact them first though, cause the order form doesn't allow entering international addresses.

Hello
I have a lot of batteries from a BMW I3 60Ah. If it suits you, it's no problem to send it.
Send me a private message if the size of the BMW I3 suits you, we will definitely come to an agreement.
Yes, Germany's bureaucracy combined with incompetence is a very big problem. There is no reasonable source for used batteries in Germany :-(

This is a good source of batteries, but Europeans who have not live in the north must consider that the sales price does not include the customs fee, customs services and VAT of the country where the battery is imported. So beware, the selling price can rise by ~30%.

Where are you located ?
I mainly choose the 20 kWh range because of the price tag. I don't want to spend a lot on an initial project I don't know yet how it will turn out.
I do have plenty of space and a daily power draw to match ;)
I assume it would be a private transaction then (so no tax and no warranty) ?
Tbh the batteries that shop above has to offer are a fairly good price imho even if I pay an 30% extra for shipping and taxes, especially since it seems to be an actual trustworthy shop.

EDIT: Just checked your profile. If you're really from prague, I could probably come pick them up on my own so we save on shipping assuming its light enough. However I have read online that the i3 batteries might lock themselfs if they are out of a crashed vehicle, so given I wanna use the whole battery with the builtin bms we would obviously have to verify its working first.

Batteries are EoS checked, unlocked and tested on a test car before shipping. The 60Ah batteries are not from an accident, my batteries are from cars that have upgraded the battery to a higher capacity.

Yes, you can prefer a battery from a crashed car and the other side of Europe. Good luck in that case.

You get a half-year warranty on the battery, when using original BMW BMS management, when using others, the warranty is 14 days.

If you want a business transaction, it is not a problem to implement it.

Yes, you can pick up the battery in person, we actually prefer that. But we can also send it, with a discount on shipping for multiple pieces :)

If you know Czech, here is an interesting video on this topic.:
