Inverter voltage range and lithium ion batteries

Hi, amateur here.

I bought a 12V DC to AC inverter, and attached a 3s lithium ion battery to power it.
However, the inverter will start beeping (signalling lower power) at roughly ~10+ volts. But I know that 3s lithium packs would have more capacity until 9.6V.
Is the inverter cutting off too soon? A sign of a cheap build?
Or am I missing out on part of the potential of the capacity of the battery pack? Should I go 4s instead? Or some kind of voltage regulator?

Li-ion is not Ideal for 12V What model of inverter do you have so we can look up the specs . they will have a low and high voltage limit specified

12V is usually 10V to 14V but every device is different. with a 3s that would be a min 9V and a max of 12.6 so it's way below it's normal Max

A 4s would be Lowest 12V and a high of 16.8 which is way too high

Well yes but actually no. Its cutting of, so its not under-discharging the "lead acid" battery its connected to.
Its 10v cut-off is actually not all too bad for lithium, you only have about 10% left in them at that point.

I'd let it be how it is currently and only add more batteries if you need more capacity, so they wont wear out as fast.
 
The "batteries" don't determine the runtime voltages, but the "inverter" does. If it's cutting out at 10V, that's the inverters configuration.
 
Be careful discharging via an inverter without a decent BMS, you could 'rip the guts' ( Tech. Term. ) :) out of the BATs to the point the LIBs will not be easily re-charged :-(
