SimpBMS, CerboGX, VictronSmartShunt - no current reading for BMS?

Hello folks.

To read the current in a SimBMS - CerboGX setup, I did use a Victron SmartShunt as suggested in a previous thread.

Am just doing the first steps with my setup, and SimpBMS does not seem to read the current from the SmartShunt yet. Can anybody elaborate, what should be done here?

The SmartShunt is connected by VE.Direct to the GerboGX, which can see the Shunt and the Values just fine (see attachment).
CerboGX also sees SimpBMS.

SimBMS Current SensorCalibration-Menu currently is as this (Sensor disabled):
c - To calibrate sensor offset
s - Current Sensor Type : Undefined
1 - invert current :0
2 - Pure Voltage based SOC :0
3 - Current Multiplication :1
q - Go back to menu


How to go from here?

In either ESS or DVCC settings there is a shared current sense setting.. maybe play with that?

also, are you sure your BMS can use the victrons shunt data?

I use a Batrium BMS and I use a shunt that it comes with. The Cerbo sees the shunt just as if it was a Victron smart shunt, but I’m not sure it would work the other way round.

I was under the impression that it can, because the SmartShunt has been suggested as an alternative to the Lem Can sensor by the seller, after I specifically did ask this question. This was and is a very important feature to me, therefor I wanted to make sure the BMS gets the Amp flow for battery calculation and throttling in case of temperature extremes - without this, a major reason of having a smart BMS in the first place (which connects with other units, like Victron) would be obsolete...

Unfortunately not. Was hoping the developer/sellers would find this thread and give a hint.
At this time, my setup still does not function properly because of the current-reading issue.

I was somewhat demotivated in the meantime, because as per the link in my first post I was under the impression that this should work pretty much flawlessly.

I guess I should find some motivation and contact the seller (and maybe developer) - especially since I'm not the only one with this issue... Did you already ask your seller in this matter?

If you want a current reading on your GX device, you can use a SmartShunt and set this as battery monitor. this way your smartshunt does the Current measurement and SOC calculations.
using DVCC the BMS still controls the charge / discharge etc.

The SimpBMS has no way of knowing what the BMV / Smartshunt reads.
The only way to use a Victron shunt for the BMS readings is to use a Lynx-Shunt, but of course this only works if the SimpBMS runs on 250 kbps (so basically only with a Tesla battery pack)

As the BMS does send the maximum charge / discharge current to the system, it doesn't need a current sensor for that, nor does it do anything with the readings from the current sensor. The only use there is from the sensor is SOC calculations (I don't use that personally, I use 'SOC based on voltage') and sending current readings to the rest of the system (GX device)

Does this mean you need the Victron BMV as well or can you connect the SmartShunt directly to the Cerbo GX?
 
Connect Smartshunt with ve-direct cable to Cerbo, done..
